Hi I’m Anya and 2020 hit me hard. Somehow this year found a way to exacerbate the truth that this world continues to devalue Black lives. As a way of coping with our reality many of my friends took the streets to march and protest for our liberation. As Black people we want to be seen, listened to, and provided for. Our lives matter. I quickly learned that marching in the streets was not a sustainable form of protest for me. I began to ask myself “What else can I do to show up for myself and my people?”. This inquiry led me to look inward- I prayed, I fasted , and I turned to yoga: a practice that had served me in the past and continues to show up for me now. Though my yoga journey did not begin in 2020, this year marks the beginning of my next phase as a teacher. Yoga was the answer to my prayers. I found a practice that allows me to not only show up for myself but to be able to hold space so that other Black people can be seen, listened to, and provided for. We will rest, it is our right. My practice is OPEN TO EVERYONE...AND, every week that I offer classes I will hold one class solely for Black femmes. We deserve a space just for us that will allow us to heal.
